28 000 Blood Bowl fans turned up for this game. Goose Riders - Tüskarna från Linghed (Season 7, Round 5) was played in nice weather and turned out to be a real nailbiter!
The Underworld team had inducements enough to hire a wizard, but the fans was on the side of the Humans. Goose Riders won the coin toss and elected to receive.
Tüskarna från Linghed was not prepared for what hit them. The Riders K.O:ed  Frank in their first turn, secured the ball and got a good offense going. Tüskarna tried to push back, and got Lothar close to Riggy Nudgenails who was holding the ball. A block and a foul later the apothecary had to step in and save Lothar, getting him back on the pitch.
The Humans managed to muck things up for the Underworld, K.O:ing two goblins but never getting close to the ballcarrier again. The touchdown was not really in question and the rat/goblins alliance was up 1-0.
Things did not go better in Tüskarnas offence. A failed pickup, good defense and Buddy Rimbreaker getting Ralf out of the game all gave the upper hand to Goose Riders.
The second half saw Tüskarna från Linghed securing the ball briefly before the wizard did what he was paid to do. The ball bounced around before coming to rest where Johnny "Stickly" could sweep in and pick it up. Securing the ball and beating up Lothar again Goose Riders felt the smell of victory!
The Humans did not give up, but rather fought even harder. Putting pressure on the ball they forced coach Henrik to make a bold play which did not succeed. Seizing the opportunity Klaus knocked the ball into the sidelines. The crowd, obviously cheering for the Humans threw it to where Franz could pick it up and run in the equalizing touchdown.
Goose Riders, looking to finish the game once and for all set up for a quick offense, but failed to catch the pass! With the ball free Klaus snatched it and threw a textbook pass to Fritz who was waiting close to the endzone. A nightmare turnaround for the Underworld but they still had 2 turns to tie the game.
Going for their patented air offense "The flying Stickly" everything was working like a well oiled machine. The handoff, the scream of Johnny "Stickly" as he flew over the heads of the fascinated Humans, the landing, the first go for it... Suddenly he went down! Noone knows what happened but there were rumors about a Dark Elf quickly leaving the sideline...
Jumping at this chance Rainer went to grab the ball, assisted by Fritz. Johnny "Stickly" was far from out of the game though. Making a difficult blitz he knocked himself down, but in his rage he killed Rainer outright! There was no chance to save the catchers life and the fantastic game ended as it should, with blood. |
